SolPalฎ Integrated Collector Storage System for Solar Water
Heating. Complete Kit.
Due to its perfect combination of a solar collector with a hot water storage
tank, SolPalฎ is more efficient than traditional thermosiphon systems. SolPalฎ
is a compact system with an integrated hot water tank that is suitable for the
most diverse applications. Whether you own a family home, a villa, a holiday
resort or a weekend retreat, SolPalฎ is the ideal solution.
Passive solar power is a highly efficient, non-polluting alternative energy
source that requires zero operating costs. Passive solar water heaters perform
well worldwide - even in cooler climates, require little to no maintenance, and
typically last 25+ years.
SolPal Benefits:
Save up to 80% of water heating costs
Save up to 30% of total energy costs
Best price/performance ratio
Federal tax
incentives
Hot water
365 days a year
Investment against future energy costs
Compact solution for hot
water production
The simple, compact and efficient design of the SolPalฎ ICS system offers an
extremely high price/performance ratio. Add to this its durability, and you get
a cost-effective system which will provide free hot water to your household for
years.
Easy installation - SolPal ICS systems are easy to install.
The solar collector and hot water storage tank are incorporated into a single,
compact casing. Installation is as easy as plumbing the cold water feed and hot
water return into your existing domestic hot water system. This is truly a
plug & play system.
More efficient than thermosiphon systems - When compared to
traditional thermosiphon systems, the SolPal ICS is superior in collecting heat
from the sun, and transferring it to your household water. And in areas where
direct sunlight is not always available, the water tank backup will supply hot
water for your household.
Sleek design - The SolPal ICS system offers a sleek profile
that follows the contour of your roof. Optimized visual appeal is achieved
through blending of form, function and material. Traditional thermosiphon
systems are bulky and do not blend in well with their surroundings.

Most sources of water are ok for this system. As a precautionary measure we
suggest you take a water sample to a local water conditioning company for a no
cost/low cost water test.
Warranty Note: Two factors are
important for use of the SolPal units: Water Quality and
Freeze Protection. If the requirements for both are not
met, the warranty is voided.
Water
Quality:
Water quality is an important factor for these units
as they are made of 444 stainless steel. SolPal should not be installed if the
water quality does not conform to the specified limit values below. If you
should still choose to install SolPal, it will void your warranty.

Cold Climate Applications:
Although SolPal is ideally
suited for equatorial, tropical, sub-tropical, and temperate applications, all
SolPal kits can also be installed in colder climates as a "Three Season"
system. During the summer, and even in the early spring and late fall seasons,
a SolPal system continues to provide total, or a substantial portion, of hot
water requirements. Simply drain the system during winter months when freeze
proofing is required, and low sun levels do not allow for efficient operation.
Freeze Protection:
The SolPal must be drained if
the temperatures fall to:
10ฐF for 6 consecutive hours, or
20ฐF
for 18 consecutive hours
When these environmental conditions are met or
exceeded, the SolPal must be manually drained in accordance with the
installation instruction. Failure to do so will void the warranty
coverage.
Technical Note for installations in colder
climates:
If using a FPV Freeze Protection Valve, use a FP35.
A check valve must be used if a freeze prevention valve
is installed. It should be installed in the return solar loop piping below the
boiler drain to prevent short circuiting of the freeze prevention valve during
cold weather. Use a check valve that is designed for back-flow prevention when
installed in a vertical position

KIT OPTIONS:
Standard
Direct - To be used as the single source of hot water
Deluxe
with 2-way Configuration - Use in conjunction with a backup heater
Premium
with 3-way Configuration - Use in conjunction with a backup heater
Standard/Direct Kit Uses a
stand-alone configuration as the single source for providing hot water.
Function: When hot water is required, solar heated water is drawn
from the collector unit and distributed directly to the points-of-use.
Applications: Best suited for use in equatorial and tropical type
climates where hot-to-very-hot temperatures exist year round
[such as the
Caribbean, Central Africa, northern South American] and conventional water
heaters are rarely used, or electrical power
is unavailable - but free hot
water is desired or required.
Performance: Hot water output is
dependant on available solar radiation, and may be temporarily interrupted by
inclement weather.
Control Valve: No control valve is
necessary.
Standard/Direct Complete System includes:
SolPal Solar Collector Unit
Mounting Hardware Kit choose from
flush, fixed, or tilt
Roof Flashing Kit - copper fittings and flashings
for pipe-through-
roof plumbing penetrations
DirectFlo Plumbing Kit copper fittings, AquaMix anti-scald mixing
valve, vacuum breaker valve, pressure relief
valve, 2 boiler drain

Deluxe/2-Way Kit Use in conjunction
with a conventional water heater, or an instantaneous water heater.
Function: When hot water is required, solar heated water is drawn
from the unit directly into a conventional or tankless water heater, thus
eliminating or reducing electricity or gas usage required for heating water.
Hot water is then distributed directly to the points-
of-use. The water
heater must remain turned on to provide backup heat as required, and to
maintain a ready supply of hot water.
Applications: Well suited for
use in tropical, sub-tropical "SunBelt", and temperate type climates where
mild-to-hot temperatures exist year round and conventional water heaters are
always used - and free hot water is desired or required.
Performance: Hot water output is dependant on available solar
radiation. Backup provides constant supply when solar performance is
temporarily interrupted by inclement weather.
Control Valve: A manual
2-Way plumbing configuration allows for isolation of the ProgressivTube system
for maintenance or winterizing, and is typically adjusted on a seasonal basis
only.

Premium/3-Way Kit Use in
conjunction with a conventional water heater, or an instantaneous water heater.
Function: When hot water is required, solar heated water is
drawn from the unit directly into a conventional or tankless water heater, thus
eliminating or reducing electricity or gas usage required for heating water.
Hot water is then distributed directly to the points-
of-use. The water
heater must remain turned on only when in the backup mode to provide
heat as required, and to maintain a ready supply of hot water.
Applications: Well suited for use in tropical, sub-tropical
"SunBelt", and temperate type climates where mild-to-hot temperatures exist
year round and conventional water heaters are always used - and free hot water
is desired or required. It allows the selection of direct solar or solar with
backup heater.
Performance: Hot water output is dependant on
available solar radiation. Backup provides constant supply when solar
performance is temporarily interrupted by inclement weather.
Control
Valve: A manual 3-Way plumbing configuration allows
direct operation
during periods when there is sufficient solar energy and no backup is required,
and is typically adjusted when sporadic inclement weather conditions reduce
solar effectiveness.
This maximizes overall operating efficiency and
eliminates standby heat loss from the backup heater. The valves also allow for
isolation of the ProgressivTube for maintenance or winterizing.

PLUG & PLAY Installation Video (Flat Roof)
The pre-assembled plumbing package shown in the video and manual is not
available in the U.S.; the plumbing kit includes U.S. approved parts which can
be assembled to meet the requirements of the installation.
Mounting Options:
Includes standard factory
flush/tilt mounting
brackets
(shown on image on left)
Flush Mount - underside of unit attaches directly to the mounting
surface. For tile roof applications where the tile roofing is installed around
the unit, or use with angled rack mounts.
Fixed Mount - aluminum
frame supports unit slightly above mounting surface. For shingle or tile roof
applications where a space is desired between the mounting surface and the unit
to allow for air flow and rain runoff.
Tilt Mount - aluminum
frame supports unit slightly above mounting surface, plus tilts collector to
desired angle for increased solar performance. Can also be used for ground
mounts applications [cement pad or footings required].
Flush mounting the collector to a pitched
roof:
Depending on the local installation codes, the
flush-mount hardware that comes packaged in the SolPal box might require
additional parts to comply with these codes. If your state requires that you
raise the collector above the roof on some sort of substructure, you can select
one of our System Mounting Kits, or you will need the following parts to finish
securing the collector to the roof (parts not included):
Unistrut rails for the collector to rest on the roof.
5/16" bolts with channel nuts & springs to secure
the bottom of the SolPal 'L' brackets into their unistrut rails. 1
each per connection needed (typically need 6 connection points)
