SolPal® Collector for Solar Water Heating.
Due to its perfect combination of a solar collector with a hot water storage
tank, SolPal® is more efficient than traditional thermosiphon systems. SolPal®
is a compact system with an integrated hot water tank that is suitable for the
most diverse applications. Whether you own a family home, a villa, a holiday
resort or a weekend retreat, SolPal® is the ideal solution.
SolPal Benefits:
• Save up to 80% of water heating costs
• Save up to 30% of total energy costs
• Best price/performance ratio
• Federal tax
incentives
• Hot water
365 days a year
•
Investment against future energy costs
• Compact solution for hot
water production
The simple, compact and efficient design of the SolPal® ICS system offers an
extremely high price/performance ratio. Add to this its durability, and you get
a cost-effective system which will provide free hot water to your household for
years.
Single Collector Panel does not include any plumbing or
control components. It is intended for:
•
Add-on collector panels to Complete
System when additional
panels
are desired to increase capacity
• Large
commercial projects requiring multiple collector panels
• Replacement change-out of damaged or obsolete collector panels
• Custom
applications requiring only the use of collector panels
Easy installation - SolPal ICS systems are easy to install.
The solar collector and hot water storage tank are incorporated into a single,
compact casing. Installation is as easy as plumbing the cold water feed and hot
water return into your existing domestic hot water system. This is truly a
“plug & play” system.
More efficient than thermosiphon systems - When compared to
traditional thermosiphon systems, the SolPal ICS is superior in collecting heat
from the sun, and transferring it to your household water. And in areas where
direct sunlight is not always available, the water tank backup will supply hot
water for your household.
Sleek design - The SolPal ICS system offers a sleek profile
that follows the contour of your roof. Optimized visual appeal is achieved
through blending of form, function and material. Traditional thermosiphon
systems are bulky and do not blend in well with their surroundings.
Product Applications:

Most sources of water are ok for this system. As a precautionary measure we
suggest you take a water sample to a local water conditioning company for a no
cost/low cost water test.
Important Note: Two factors
that are important for use of these units are water quality and potential
freezing. Water quality is an important factor for these units as they
are made of 444 stainless steel.
Water Quality:
Water quality is an important
factor for these units as they are made of 444 stainless steel. SolPal should
not be installed if the water quality does not conform to the specified limit
values below. If you should still choose to install SolPal, it will void your
warranty.

Cold
Climate Applications:
Although SolPal is ideally suited for
equatorial, tropical, sub-tropical, and temperate applications, all SolPal kits
can also be installed in colder climates as a "Three Season" system. During the
summer, and even in the early spring and late fall seasons, a SolPal system
continues to provide total, or a substantial portion, of hot water
requirements. Simply drain the system during winter months when freeze
proofing is required, and low sun levels do not allow for efficient operation.
Freeze Protection:
The SolPal must be drained if
the temperatures fall to:
10°F for 6 consecutive hours, or
20°F
for 18 consecutive hours
When these environmental conditions are met or
exceeded, the SolPal must be manually drained in accordance with the
installation instruction. Failure to do so will void the warranty
coverage.
Technical Note for installations in colder
climates:
•
If using a FPV Freeze Protection Valve, use a FP35.
• A check valve must be used if a freeze prevention valve
is installed. It should be installed in the return solar loop piping below the
boiler drain to prevent short circuiting of the freeze prevention valve during
cold weather. Use a check valve that is designed for back-flow prevention when
installed in a vertical position
PLUG & PLAY Installation Video (Flat Roof)
The pre-assembled plumbing package shown in the video and manual is not
available in the U.S.; the plumbing kit includes U.S. approved parts which can
be assembled to meet the requirements of the installation.
Mounting Options:
Includes standard factory
flush/tilt mounting
brackets
(shown on image on left)
Flush Mount - underside of unit attaches directly to the mounting
surface. For tile roof applications where the tile roofing is installed around
the unit, or use with angled rack mounts.
Fixed Mount - aluminum
frame supports unit slightly above mounting surface. For shingle or tile roof
applications where a space is desired between the mounting surface and the unit
to allow for air flow and rain runoff.
Tilt Mount - aluminum
frame supports unit slightly above mounting surface, plus tilts collector to
desired angle for increased solar performance. Can also be used for ground
mounts applications [cement pad or footings required].
Flush mounting the collector to a pitched
roof:
Depending on the local installation codes, the
flush-mount hardware that comes packaged in the SolPal box might require
additional parts to comply with these codes. If your state requires that you
raise the collector above the roof on some sort of substructure, you can
select one of our System Mounting Kits, or you will need the following parts
to finish securing the collector to the roof (parts not
included):
• Unistrut rails for the
collector to rest on the roof.
• 5/16" bolts
with channel nuts & springs to secure the bottom of the SolPal 'L'
brackets into their unistrut rails. 1 each per connection needed (typically
need 6 connection points)
